This is a volunteer community theater production. Non-Equity. There is no pay.

Conflicts with the Rehearsal Schedule will play a major part in casting. Limited, minor conflicts will be accepted, but we will not cast anyone with a conflict on a tech day or a performance.)

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bring printed out current Head Shot and Resume. Please be familiar with the show. Have a good knowledge of any minimal conflicts you have with the rehearsal schedule. People with conflicts on Tech Dates or Performances will not be cast.
AT THE OPEN CALL: Please prepare one of the Song Excerpts from the Show [sheet music available on our Website (www.lbplayhouse.org) or Facebook event] to sing. Be prepared to act and present a character with your song. Also be prepared to move for the dance portion of the auditions. A change of clothes is suggested for movement.
AT THE CALLBACKS: - Scene sides will be read, songs from the show will be learned and sung, and a dance callback may be seen. If possible, roles will be offered at the end of the evening in person.
SHORT SYNOPSIS:
HEATHERS: The Musical is the darkly delicious satire based on the iconic teen-comedy movie of the 80s. Veronica Sawyer, a brainy teenage misfit, hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. Once there, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid, J.D. But before she can get comfortable atop the food chain, she runs afoul of Heather Chandler, the almighty queen of the school. Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized ass...but J.D. has other plans, as a series of murders of Westerberg’s most popular students reveals the real-cut throat nature of teenage popularity.
CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
NOTE: All roles are open to any ethnicity. All roles are singing roles. Due the mature nature of this show, we are only considering adult actors who are 18+ at the time of the auditions.
WARNING: HEATHERS is a dark comedy satire that deals frankly and sometimes comically with subjects such as murder, suicide, bullying, teen sexuality, and drug use. Please seriously, and honestly, consider your ability and comfort dealing with these issues before committing to your involvement in the show.
In particular, you should note the following:
•Veronica and JD are required to kiss multiple times and be involved a simulated sex scene.
•Some of the other Westerberg High Students are required to “make-out” at the party.
•Kurt, Ram, JD and Veronica are required to appear on stage in their underwear.
•Martha and Heather McNamara attempt suicide in the show.
•Veronica fakes her own suicide.
•Veronica, Kurt, and Ram are involved in a scene where a drunken
assault is implied.
•Heather Chandler, Kurt, and Ram are murdered in the show.
•Martha is verbally bullied about her weight.
•Many characters sing about topics of a sexual nature.
•Some scenes depict the use of alcohol and drugs.
•Some scenes and songs include coarse language and adult themes.
We have included this information not to put you off from auditioning but rather to be honest about what the show includes. To avoid difficulties later, we encourage all auditioners to read the script of the show and consider watching the movie prior to auditioning to know what kind of show they getting themselves into.
VERONICA SAWYER: (F, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: G3-F#5. Voice: High belting required, Must have dynamic and stylistic range. Burns to be both cool and kind, but doesn't yet know how to be both at the same time. Fierce sense of right and wrong, keen sense of ironic humor. Thinks she's an old soul, but she's still innocent enough to be blindsided by love or shocked by cruelty. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing, simulated sex scene. Actor will be required to be Seen in Underwear: bra and panties.)
JASON "J.D." DEAN: (M, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: C3-Bb4. Voice: Strong, confident belt with a wide emotional range. Darkly charismatic, compelling, attractive. Charming on the outside, damaged on the inside. Keen smarts, savage wit. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing, simulated sex scene. Actor will be required to be Seen in Underwear: tighty-whities.)
HEATHER CHANDLER: (F, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: A3-E5. Voice: Strong belt, Mezzo for chorus. The richest, hottest, cruelest girl in town. Relishes power and wields it without fear, patience, or mercy. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing.)
HEATHER MCNAMARA: (F, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: G3-F5. Voice: Strong belt, Soprano for chorus. Beautiful, innocent, stupid. Can be mean on command if Heather Chandler orders it, but actually quite vulnerable and fearful. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing.)
HEATHER DUKE: (F, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: A3-G5. Voice: Strong belt, Alto for chorus. The whipped beta dog of the three Heathers. Deeply insecure. When she finally becomes Queen Bee, she wields power like a bulldozer. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing.)
MARTHA DUNNSTOCK: (F, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: G3-Eb5. Voice: Strong belt, wide vocal expression. Nicknamed "Martha Dumptruck," the opposite of confident and popular. Huge and beautiful soul, optimistic even in the face of rejection.
RAM SWEENEY: (M, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: B2-F#4. Voice: Strong baritone, some falsetto useful. Linebacker. Big, insensitive to the feelings of others, ruled by appetites. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing. Actor will be required to be Seen in Underwear: tighty-whities.)
KURT KELLY: (M, 18 - 28 to play 17) Vocal Range: Bb2-A4. Voice: tenor, strong belt, some falsetto. Quarterback and captain. Chiseled, rude, entitled, cocky. He's the brains in the friendship with Ram. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing. Actor will be required to be Seen in Underwear: tighty-whities.)
FACULTY/PARENTS:
MS. FLEMING: (F, 40 - 50) Vocal Range: Ab3-F5. Voice: Great belt. Aging hippie teacher, still yearning for the day the Age of Aquarius reaches Ohio. Resentful of today's entitled youth, protective of the underdogs. Despite a penchant for self-promotion, genuinely cares about the students in her charge. Also Plays VERONICA’S MOM.
RAMS' DAD: (M, 35 - 45) Vocal Range: C3-A4. Voice: tenor - power belt. Former football player turned suburban dad, has never outgrown his high school glory days. Hates weakness, but capable of soul-searching when tragedy strikes. Also Plays: BIG BUD DEAN & COACH RIPPER.
KURTS' DAD: (M, 35 - 45) Vocal Range: F#3-A4. Voice: Strong baritone/tenor - power belt. Straight-laced, very conservative, also former football player: A simple guy, not book smart, you'd' be happy to share a beer with him. Also Plays: VERONICA’S DAD & PRINCIPAL GOWAN
OTHER WESTERBURG HIGH STUDENTS:
RODNEY (BELEAGURED GEEK): (M, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Ab3-F#4. Voice: Tenor. An embittered social outcast.
KEITH (PREPPY STUD): (M, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Eb3-F#4. Voice: Baritone/Tenor. Straightlaced, ambitious, blow-dried. Dreams of being even richer than his parents. Also Plays: OFFICER MILNER. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing.)
DWIGHT (HIPSTER DORK): (M, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Bb2-F4. Voice: Bass/Baritone. Thinks he's Ducky from Pretty in Pink. Also Plays: OFFICER MCCORD.
DEBBIE (NEW WAVE GIRL): (F, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Bb3-A4. She wants her MTV and dresses accordingly.
TRACY (STONER CHICK): (F, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Ab3-Eb5. Smokes outside with the freaks in between classes. Her future's so bright she's gotta wear shades to hide her bloodshot eyes.
COURTNEY (YOUNG REPUBLICANETTE): (F, 18 - 28 to play 16 -18) Vocal Range: Ab3-Bb4. A tennis-playing, perky Student Council type. (Role requires Intimate Moments with other actors: kissing, touching, embracing.)
