Join us for an evening inspired by the Lughnasadh tradition – a celebration of harvest, culture, and stories. The program includes an insightful talk on Irish folklore and healing traditions, a live music performance by Dmitry Funky Sax, and time for conversation over light refreshments.

Cecily Gilligan – author and folklore researcher
Cecily lives in rural County Sligo, north-west Ireland. She is a primary school teacher with a degree in Social Science and a Masters in Women’s Studies from University College Cork. Her fascination with folklore began in childhood, nurtured by stories from her community and especially her grandmother. Since her university days, Cecily has pursued extensive research into Ireland’s folk medicine, interviewing traditional healers and exploring rituals involving holy wells, pilgrimages, and natural remedies.
Her book Cures of Ireland: A Treasury of Irish Folk Remedies was published by Merrion Press in autumn 2023 and quickly became a bestseller. It was shortlisted for The Folklore Society’s Katharine Briggs Award 2024, and in spring 2025, it was published in the USA and Canada by Rowman & Littlefield (Bloomsbury).
Besides her research, Cecily is an avid hill-walker, sailor, world traveler, and a passionate advocate for Irish culture and language. She also campaigns for human rights and environmental protection locally and globally.

Dmitry Funky Sax – saxophonist and producer
An artist blending the analog warmth of the saxophone with the energy of electronic music. His sound features deep bass lines, spacious cosmic textures, and melodic themes that stir both mind and body. For over a decade, Dmitry has performed internationally, merging jazz, funk, and modern sounds into a captivating whole.
In his original show Shaman Talks, he transports audiences into a magical and mystical world.
