Step into VIDYA´s musical dreamscape! A visionary artist blending jazz, pop, world music, and improvisation into a compelling sound that transcends borders.
Vidya is a playful and strongly intuitive singer, composer and producer. She is inspired by the body and inner processes, sound, shape and colour. Her music often appears in her dreams...
Always performing in a state of a pulsating now - her compositions carve pathways of beauty and strength, as she folds the melodies around herself like vocal origami.
Vidya is born in India and grew up in Sweden. Her first album Peace Play received great reviews in Swedish media. Her second album The Papillon released in 2022, went on to achieve international acclaim, and was also nominated for the Swedish Manifest Prize in the Jazz category 2023.
In May 2024 she released her third album Adi Shakti. Building on the sentiment of her second album Papillon, Adi Shakti draws upon Vidya’s experience of having searched for, found, then lost her biological Indian mother, followed by the death of her adopted Swedish mother in 2022.
The Hindu mantra ‘Adi Shakti’ means ‘Primal Power’, and it was this alongside an extremely moving poem by the 13th century Persian scholar and mystic Rumi that inspired her new music.
Adi Shakti features the exceptionally creative guitarist - Rob Luft - who also co-wrote two songs with Vidya, as well as co-produced them with her.
The Adi Shakti album caught the eye of both Jumoké Fashola who played it on her show om BBC, as well as Jamie Cullum who still has Vidya´s song Desert Blues on JC´s monthly playlist.
Now playing in the U.K. for first time, Vidya and Rob are joined by prominent bass player Mirko Scarcia and award-winning drummer Corrie Dick! This resulting in a playful quartet whose dynamic synergy very much shines through live!
Vidya is also an actor and is currently working on getting her recent monolog "Beyond Home" to Europe. She is also writing and recording a new album for the quartet as well as composing an electronic drama suite, together with Japanese classical drummer Mika Takehara.
