The Human Algorithm: A conversation on Emerging Technologies, Language, Learning, and Mindsets

About the Master Class: 

Emerging technologies are transforming the way we live, learn, and relate to the world—often faster than our ability to fully understand their societal impact. As artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, and other frontier technologies advance, they raise important questions about how humans and machines interact, how knowledge is shaped, and how mindsets influence innovation. 

Contrary to the common belief that technology evolves separately from the humanities, disciplines such as language, philosophy, and cultural studies play a critical role in the development of emerging technologies. At the same time, technological advances are opening new possibilities for humanistic research, redefining how we study, interpret, and communicate knowledge. 

This master class brings together perspectives from technology and the humanities in a thought-provoking conversation between Esperanza Cuenca Gómez, Developer Relations Manager at NVIDIA and specialist in quantum computing, and Prof. Susana Torres Prieto, Associate Professor in the Humanities at IE University and expert in digital humanities.  

The discussion will explore human–machine interaction, the power of metaphors in technological thinking, learning paradigms, and the mindsets required to navigate an increasingly hybrid human–digital future. 

The session will be moderated by Sophia Sampaio Teixeira do Amaral, Executive Director of the School of Humanities at IE University.
