About this Event

Tech for Good Hackathon

#HackForGood (because someone has to)

This in-person hackathon brings together people who want to use design thinking to creatively tackle high-value tech for good challenges. Over an intensive and collaborative weekend, participants will creatively explore problems and build prototypes addressing themes such as:

  • Ethical and responsible AI
  • Protecting and empowering vulnerable communities
  • Crisis response and disaster relief

Expert speakers will share their knowledge and experiences of working on these topics to direct an evidence-based approach to the hackathon. Design challenges will then be presented, with everyone choosing which they want to work on addressing through ideation and prototyping. Delegates will then pitch their ideas and groups will form to collaboratively work on each concept and prototype. At the end of the weekend each group will present their work, which will be judged by subject matter experts; coaching prizes by product leaders will then be awarded.

Expert talks include:

  • Jodie Keens will draw on her experience as a Senior Product Manager and Senior User Researcher in government to share insights on designing with and for vulnerable communities. She will explore how design thinking can be used to create inclusive, ethical and impactful solutions.
  • Clara Greo is a service design and user-centred design leader who champions equity and justice in digital transformation. In her talk, she will share design-led perspectives on ethical AI and how thoughtful, human-centred approaches can shape more responsible technologies.
  • Anant Pratap Singh will discuss his work as an Emergency Responder and Network Lead at St John Ambulance, unpacking the realities of crisis response at major medical incidents. From a frontline leadership perspective, he will explore the complexities of disaster relief and show how these insights can be applied to design solutions that make a real impact.

Prizes include coaching by:

  • Irina Pencheva, Head of Product at NHS England
  • Scott Colfer, Director of Product at Herd Consulting

The event is open to anyone interested in making a positive impact in the tech for good space, you don’t need to be a coder. We actively encourage participation from people with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds and lived experiences, as we believe that diverse perspectives lead to stronger, more innovative ideas.

This hackathon is co-organised by Jodie Keens (Safer Futures Tech) and Emily Haynes (DesSoc, Imperial College London).
