About the event

SALON NO.123: Lost London, Lost Londoners
Two of London’s most passionate historians uncover lost chapters and characters from the city’s story.

We have all been lost in London at some time or another, but time itself is continually losing London. Join us in a little recollection of some of what has disappeared along the way.
--
VIC KEEGAN , pre-eminent chronicler of the forgotten city, uncovers a handpicked selection of the lesser-known cultural gems the capital has bulldozed, buried, or simply mislaid—sometimes by accident or conflict, but usually in the name of progress. Based on his acclaimed Lost London series, Vic reveals how the past still lingers in cracks and corners—if we know where to look.

Meanwhile, MATT BROWN , the most London-obsessed man in the universe, remembers some of the extraordinary Londoners that history does not -from scientists and rebels to artists and activists. With his ever-watchful eye for the unusual , curious and overlooked, Matt reanimates some ghosts of the lost city—suggesting that the people lacking plaques deserve their moment in the light too.
---
Vic Keegan is a journalist, poet and urban historian. A former columnist and editor at The Guardian , he is the author of Vic Keegan’s Lost London , a passionate and poetic excavation of the capital’s buried past.
Matt Brown is the editor at large of Londonist and author of numerous books about culture and the city, including Everything You Know About London is Wrong . A curious chronicler of overlooked stories, Matt is one of London’s most engaging public historians and a maker of maps.

Our home, THE HORSE HOSPITAL , is a unique Grade II listed not for profit, independent arts venue within the only existing unspoilt example of a two-floor, purpose-built stable with public access in London.
Built in 1797 by James Burton. the shell is constructed with London Stocks whilst the interior features a mock cobbled concrete floor and ramps with slats to prevent the horses from slipping. Each floor has five cast iron pillars and several original iron tethering rings.
There will be a bar to purchase drinks
