Rosa Luxemburg and I

Why are we in an existential environmental crisis? What binds to the unsustainable status quo? Where is the revolution to save us?

“Rosa Luxemburg and I” is a research project that deconstructs the carbon complicit self through a collage of monologues, satire, poems and prose/poetry to activate radical imagination towards new, revolutionary ways of being. Drawing upon sociology, political philosophy and climate scholarship, this funny and moving "work in progress" event includes performance, research discussion and participatory exercises.

In this piece, historical figure and socialist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg becomes a creative vector to reflect upon earth system damage and the capitalist status quo. It asks how can our individual "I" find its way to climate revolution and solidarity? An important and engaging event not to be missed.

Presenter Amanda Douge is an actress, writer and scholar. During her thirty-year career she has presented work internationally for arts festivals, conservatoires and mainstream media and has been the recipient of significant national awards. She most recently appeared as Andromache in the Netflix series KAOS. Her production St.Joan/Greta adapted the story of Joan of Arc for ecological reflection and featured at the Peckham Festival, London, 2022.

Currently a Doctoral candidate at the University of Glasgow, Amanda has presented her practice-based research in Norway, Scotland, Ireland and England. Her research interrogates performance and creative writing as a radical pedagogy for communities working towards climate transformations.

Proceeds from this event will support further research and performances at the International Society for Ecological Economics and the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (UK)
