Nerd Nite London is an event where three speakers
give 18-21-minute fun yet informative talks across all disciplines,
while the audience drinks along.
This month, we're investigating the world of the weird, paranormal and wonderful for Halloween season.
Chris French, psychology professor and author of The Science of Weird Shit, explores the psychology of alien abductions.
Naomi Ryan, criminal barrister, writer and lover of all things macabre, relates the 1930s court case that had to decide if a belief in demon mongooses meant you were mad.
Deborah Hyde, author, presenter and supernatural superfan, wonders whether medieval East Anglia was visited by fairies? Who were the two weird green children found in a field in Suffolk?
Be there and be square.
All proceeds from Nerd Nite London go to charity.
For each event we ask our Facebook followers to help choose which charity we should support.
For October, our three shortlisted charities are:
Literacy Pirates: literacypirates.org - Building literacy, confidence and perseverance in kids who are struggling in school.
Voiceability: voiceability.org - Supporting people to be heard in decisions about their health, care and wellbeing for almost 40 years.
In2scienceUK: in2scienceuk.org - Unlocking the potential of young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds and boosting diversity and inclusion in STEM.
