Wilful, tempestuous 21-year-old socialite Julie Merriday (pout-y sex kitten Joey Heatherton) is the wild child of Maine’s patrician old-money Merriday family. “If you don’t put a rein on that child, she’ll wind up in the morgue!” Aunt Sarah (Jeanette Nolan) snaps to Julie’s father Julian (Barry Sullivan), before rebuking Julie herself, “In less than a year you’ve wrecked a motorboat AND a car!” True to form, one day Julie runs a motorcyclist off the road while driving recklessly in her sports car. The biker is a moody, enigmatic loner called Ben Gunther (hunky male starlet Troy Donahue).
