Midsummer in the gardens of St. Katherines, The Danish Church in London

For years we have celebrated St. Hans (Midsummer) in the church garden. St. Hans is, like many other Danish traditions, a mixture of our historical background; originally a celebration of the solstice that was reinterpreted and adapted to Christian traditions to celebrate the birth of John the Baptist.

You are welcome alone or with family and friends – and everyone can invite their friends to see how we celebrate midsummer Danish style. This is an event for all ages.

From 6:00 pm the children can bake snobrød (breadsticks) by small child-safe bonfires. At 7:30 pm we gather to light the big bonfire, sing. There will be a bonfire speaker (in Danish). Stalls close at 9:00 pm
