Understand heat, systems, and performance without breaking the laws of physics.
The UK heating sector is one of the most competitive and technically complex markets in Europe. Marketing teams are expected to communicate increasingly technical messages about efficiency, comfort, carbon, and compliance — often without being given the scientific grounding needed to do this with confidence or accuracy.
This in-person training day exists to change that. Led by BetaTeach, the session is designed specifically for marketing, PR, and communications professionals working in the UK heating sector. It provides a practical, accessible understanding of how heat and heating systems actually work, so marketing claims are credible, defensible, and trusted by installers and engineers.
The day also addresses a deeper challenge. The industry’s understanding of heating has been shaped by a long history of gas boiler dominance, which can make alternative technologies feel unfamiliar or risky. In reality, heat pump systems have existed in UK buildings for decades, even before the country had natural gas boilers, and they are already common in many commercial and public sector settings. The training provides the science and historical context needed to communicate confidently about a wider range of technologies.
During the day, we’ll explore:
This is not an engineering course. No technical background is required.
The training is deliberately interactive and evidence-led, built around how people actually learn. Expect clear explanations, real examples from heating marketing, discussion and myth-busting, all in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.
The aim is confidence, not complexity.
This training is ideal for:
If you create content about heating systems, this day is for you.
The day is hosted and led by Nathan (BetaTeach) — a qualified plumbing and heating lecturer, long-standing technical voice in the UK heating industry, and holder of a degree in Behavioural Studies.
BetaTeach’s approach is grounded in how people actually learn, and is reinforced by a unique industry perspective: the founder’s family were early adopters of pioneering Japanese heating systems in the UK, including installing Mitsubishi’s first heat recovery heat pump systems and the first Daikin VRV system installed in a recording studio (Classic FM).
Nathan’s work is recognised across industry, government and policy.
“Nathan is one of the UK’s clean heat leaders.”
— Chris Stark, former CEO, Climate Change Committee
“Nathan is brilliant at making the complicated simple and showing practical ways to reduce heating usage.”
— Amber Rudd, former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change
“Nathan has helped us better understand heating and the industry. He’s a great communicator who connects installers, policymakers and industry effectively.”
— Mission Director, Nesta
“Nathan bridges the language gap between policymakers and heating engineers, helping to solve the UK’s heat decarbonisation challenge.”
— Dr Matthew Aylott, DESNZ
“Nathan is committed to enhancing technical and installation excellence in the heating sector, with particular passion and knowledge for heat pumps.”
— Charlotte Lee, CEO, Heat Pump Association
The training takes place at Nesta, one of the UK’s most respected innovation foundations and home of the Behavioural Insights Team.
This is an education-led event, not a sales event.
Places are limited to maintain a high-quality, interactive experience.
This training day is supported by a small number of industry partners who share a commitment to improving technical accuracy and trust in heating communications.
Sponsoring partners have no editorial control over the training content.
