Rakesh Rootsman Rak believes, *'True sustainability begins with self-empowerment and community resilience.'* A passionate permaculture designer, teacher, and reggae DJ, Rakesh has taught over 500 courses since 2009 across diverse climates, cultures, and communities worldwide. Drawing on ancestral wisdom from his Indian heritage, his teaching honours traditional sustainable practices often overlooked in modern permaculture. As a non-white educator in a field dominated by Caucasian voices, Rakesh offers a unique perspective rooted in lived experience and cultural richness. From small gardens to eco-villages, his designs foster resilience and regeneration. As co-founder of Children and Youth in Permaculture, he empowers future generations with tools to restore balance to the planet, blending his love for nature, community, and music to inspire growth in every sense.
==== CONSCIOUS CONTRIBUTION ====
Rakesh's philosophy is that money should not be an obstacle to learning.
So to encourage people from all economic backgrounds to be able to attend, we suggest a donation of between £20-£80 sliding scale according to your ability to pay.
Please use the below as a guideline:
- £20-30 - Little or no disposable income
- £40-50 - I can meet my basic needs
- £60-80 - I earn enough to live beyond my needs e.g. taking a holiday more than once a year.
