GATHER ROUND THE FIRE: Sally and the Soothsayers + Lucy Lundström + Alex Avraam

Come gather round as Alex, Lucy and Sally (with her band) grace the stage at MAP Studio Cafe. Expect homely vibes, hand-made music, and potential psychic activity.

SALLY RUSHBROOK & THE SOOTHSAYERS

Based in London, Sally grew up in a family with a love of Jazz and Blues. Initially drawn to the music of Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Nina Simone, she later sought out a greater variety of sounds, drawing influence from folk, gyspy jazz and bar-room blues when crafting her own material. Streams of consiousness and narratives often form the basis of these songs, touching on subjects such as the passing of time, changing hearts and lost souls. Like a late-night conversation stretching into the early hours, her music can equally evoke the feeling that someone is confiding in you or taking an old aphorism and turning it on its head to see what happens.

'Haunts' - the lead single from Sally's album Another Point of View - tells of the sense of loss one can feel in a constantly changing world. It paints a picture of a shifting landscape, in which any sense of belonging to a place is temporary. In this way, Sally sings from the perspective of an old soul adrift in the modern world.

LUCY LUNDSTRÖM

Dwelling on the threshold between epiphany and confusion, Swedish Lucy Lundström sings from a place of existential questioning and occasional dread. Drawing inspiration from folk music, fairytales and visionary art, her songwriting is distinctive and evocative, yet, humble and vaguely to-the-point.
