Factory Floor has spent the past decade earning a reputation as one of the UK’s most electrifying and uncompromising live acts. Known for their intense, shape-shifting performances, the band evolved from their raw, noise-driven beginnings into a more expansive sound that explores the outer edges of techno, minimalism, acid, and post-industrial rhythms. This sonic transformation has earned them a devoted following and cemented their place at the forefront of modern electronic music.
Originally a trio featuring Gabriel Gurnsey, Nik Colk Void, and Dominic Butler, Factory Floor released a string of acclaimed EPs and 12” singles on labels such as Optimo and Blast First Petite before unleashing their debut self-titled album via DFA Records in 2012. Hailed by outlets including Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, The Quietus, and The Guardian, the record demonstrated their ability to channel the energy of their live shows into a taut and hypnotic studio player.
Following Butler’s departure, the band continued as a duo, releasing their second album, 2525, in 2016. Recorded between LA and the UK and mixed by David Wrench, the album showcased Factory Floor’s meticulous approach to crafting propulsive, industrial-tinged grooves. Tracks from both albums have been reimagined by a range of groundbreaking artists, including Laurel Halo, Jlin, Daniel Avery, Perc, Chris Carter, Stephen Morris and Chris Cunningham, further affirming the band’s influence within the electronic underground.
Renowned for their visceral live performances, Factory Floor have captivated audiences on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Coachella, Pitchfork Festival, Primavera Sound, Unsound, Meredith, Sonar, Club2Club, Berghain, and Tate Modern. Their recent performance at Mutek Montreal marked a triumphant return, drawing widespread praise for their dynamic interplay and boundary-pushing soundscapes.
Today, Factory Floor comprises Gabriel Gurnsey on drums, percussion, and electronics; Nik Colk Void on modular synth and vocals; and Joe Ward on percussion during live performances. During their hiatus, both Gurnsey and Void remained deeply embedded in the alternative and electronic music scenes, each releasing critically acclaimed solo work—Gurnsey via Phantasy and Void through Editions Mego. Now, with their renewed focus and revitalised energy, Factory Floor continues to expand the possibilities of live electronic performance.
