Working with nature and food waste, we will make eco printed cards and use thickened onion skin dye to paint an organic draw string bag.
In this experimental workshop led by Sharon of Leaf Thief Prints you will make eco printed cards and paint on an organic draw string bag with dye made from onion skins. All materials will be provided but please bring an apron and if you have any flowers and leaves (not evergreen) you are welcome to bring them.
By placing flowers and leaves onto pre-prepared paper, then adding blankets of fabric soaked in natural dye to make a colourful background, your bundle of cards is created. The cards are then steamed which magically transfers the colours and shapes of the foliage onto the paper.
Whilst the cards are steaming we will use onion skin dye to paint onto the bag either going free style or using stencils. This vibrant natural dye takes to the cotton fabric of the bag beautifully. The bag can be ironed to "fix" the paint to the fabric and be washed.
Finally, you can unwrap the bundle of cards to reveal the delights that nature has gifted onto the paper!
All items will make beautiful festive presents.
Suitable for ages 8+ (all children must be supervised by an adult. Leader has enhanced DBS check).
On Saturday 18 October, Muswell Hill Creatives will be bringing people together to get creative at its Make and Mend Festival. Guaranteed to be a feast of creativity, take part in a workshop, learn about mending and repairs, shop from local makers and enjoy tasty food and drink. Doors open at 1pm and close at 5.30pm so there’s plenty to do and see either side of your workshop.
