On Wednesday 9 July, Dub Me Always is pleased to present the long-awaited return of guest selector Dennis Bovell, treating us to exclusive previews of his forthcoming album Wise Music In Dub, playing alongside the regular host, DJ David Katz, plus at 7:45pm sharp, a Q&A with Dennis about the new album!
One of the leading lights of the UK reggae scene for the last several decades, Barbados-born Dennis is a true reggae renaissance man. He reached London as a pre-teen in the mid-1960s and immersed himself in reggae culture, founding Matumbi in 1971, and establishing his own Sufferer’s Sound System, one of the most popular and feared sounds of the day. Bovell also spearheaded the lover’s rock genre from his time at DIP Records and made some of the hardest dubs ever issued in Britain, and in addition to being Linton Kwesi Johnson’s bandleader since the late 1970s, Bovell went on to work with all manner of folks internationally, including Fela Kuti, the Slits, Alpha Blondy, and many more. Expect to hear totally unknown and exclusive works from Dennis’ dub basket, alongside the exclusives from the hotly anticipated new dub LP… the only way to find out what he’s going to drop is by being there!
