Join weaver Sara Kelly for a relaxed, day-long tapestry weaving workshop on Friday 22nd August, 10am–5pm.
Open to adults aged 18+, this one-off session welcomes complete beginners as well as those with some weaving experience.
This is more than just a typical weaving class. Alongside learning essential tapestry techniques, you'll gain the foundational skills to confidently continue weaving at home—without the need for costly tools or materials. Sara will teach you how to warp any kind of frame loom, from a simple photo frame to larger, custom-made structures. This often-overlooked skill is crucial to sustaining a personal weaving practice and will empower you to build your own looms and experiment independently.
Throughout the day, you'll be guided through setting up your own tapestry frame and introduced to key weaving terminology and techniques. You’ll explore texture, colour blending, and expressive design using a range of yarns—building both practical knowledge and creative confidence.
Whether you're looking to learn something new, refresh your skills, or simply enjoy a creative day in a supportive setting, this workshop offers an informal, hands-on space to deepen your understanding of tapestry weaving. Follow the group project or bring your own ideas—there’s plenty of room for experimentation.
Tapestry weaving is a slow craft with a rich global history. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refine your technique, this session will help build your skills in a supported and friendly environment.
