Synopsis: Mystical Ecstasy immerses audiences in the mystic works of 17th-century Ibero-American female writers such as Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Santa Teresa de Jesús, Ana Caro y María de Zayas, among others, through a selection of texts and poems.

This performance merges spoken word and music to delve into these memorable authors' life stories and legacies, highlighting the themes of sisterhood, resilience, freedom, and the courage it took for women of that era to pursue writing—a bold endeavour.

Designed with universal accessibility in mind, the show creates an intimate setting to convey the profound messages in these classical stories and poems. Utilizing live narrations, a sound visualizer, and subtitles, ensures an inclusive experience for visually and hearing-impaired individuals, and international audiences. The goal is to shatter barriers and elevate the overall theatrical experience.

AURIC: Founded by the Arts Council England, AURIC mission's is to reinvent classical theatre for diverse audiences today. Our shows blend poetry from the Spanish Golden Age in translation, with melodies of contemporary world music. The tales we are reimagining draw inspiration from the 'tres culturas,' a time in Spain when Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities coexisted in peace. They resonate profoundly with the challenges and joys we face today. By reinventing these timeless legacies, we aspire to celebrate the universality of classics. Our goal is to bring audiences together, transcending borders such as language and cultural barriers, mobility issues, or sensorial limitations. AURIC presents multilingual, transdisciplinary live performances and workshops to connect us all.

Paula Rodríguez is an award-winning Spanish actress and director based in London and working internationally. Paula is also a translator, writer, and producer. As an artist, she is interested in re-visiting Spanish classics for modern anglophone audiences, by collaborating with diverse artists from multidisciplinary backgrounds. She is the cofounder of Teatro Inverso: their two shows ROSAURA and WONDERS have toured the USA, Latin America, and Europe since 2015.

Arthur Astier is a French composer and musician. He explores different styles of expression such as performance installations, theatre, immersive performance and film. He has worked alongside international artists such as Peter Brook, Christian Boltanski and Frank Krawczyk. He was part of Brook’s production of The Suit, which premiered at The Young Vic.
