Join us for Part 1 of our Black History Month Workshop Series at Republic London: Quilting for Self-Expression with award-winning graphic designer and craft educator Jahnavi Inniss.
This hands-on workshop invites you to stitch your story into the fabric of change. Jahnavi’s accessible textile practice celebrates untold stories within Black British history and empowers participants to challenge distorted narratives and create new representations of self and community.
Jahnavi has delivered workshops with Crafts Council, Tate Britain, South London Gallery, and the Fitzwilliam Museum.
What you’ll do:
• Learn: Explore quilting as a tool for storytelling, resistance and representation
• Make: Design and stitch your own quilt block (materials provided)
• Share: Reflect on personal and collective histories through textiles
• Bring: Optional – meaningful scrap textiles or fabric offcuts if you’d like
Who is this for?
Open to students, residents, and the local community. No prior sewing or quilting experience required. All are welcome. No experience needed. All materials provided.
