About this Event

JOIN THE REVOLUTION !!

Celebrate BCS Heritage month at Markethall, Oxford Street, in the heart of Central London.

As part of BCS Heritage month, we have Special guest, DJ Beyond who will bring back Canto/Mando pop as well as remixed ESEA music to the masses which are currently neglected by western venues. Also we will also run our popular Open Mic at the end where Cantopop and ESEA music will be sang by the public.

Are you fed up that Bars & venues only play western music or if there are ESEA music, the token Kpop music. BCS is to fight for change ! Bringing singers from our own community who will belt out their favourite Cantopop and other Esea music. We will also open the stage in the final quarter of the event where there is an Open Cpop mic for anyone to belt their favourite esea songs while dancing and enjoying a few beverages from the bar.

Line up:-

Daisy Hung (author)

Our guest in June BCS Talk & author of the insightful ESEA book, 'I am not a Tourist'. She will read a passage from her book regarding the lack of representation in our community.

A Chinese descent, born in Canada with family from Hong Kong, raised in the US, and now settled in the UK, her sense of identity has shifted among many different contexts. Her international perspective on race, identity, and belonging, has been informed by a career of over two decades across legal, non-profit and education sectors working to support marginalised communities.

Her writing journey has included being longlisted for the Penguin WriteNow 2020 competition and selected for the inaugural HarperCollins Author Academy programme in 2021 and The Greene Door Project’s mentoring scheme in November 2021.

You can catch her in Oxford University where she is currently is the divisional head for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and is responsible for developing divisional strategy in this area in relation to staff and students.

Gary Luong & Mio (BCS Karaoke singers)Drawn from BCS Karaoke. Our regular attendees in the BCS Karaoke who have sang admirably every time they pick up the mic, singing with a voice from the 4 Kings of Cantopop and Queen of Kpop.

BCS believe that talent should not simply be drawn from those who are lucky to get picked up from established media or regular influencers. Our community have many talents that are never publicised or given a platform from western media and BCS with a small platform seek to give our community to showcase our talents.

Gary like many BBCs come from a catering background with him having to work in his family restaurant every Friday & weekend (in fact he had to get a day off for our show !) & only free on a Sunday to take part in BCS Karaoke. However whenever he picks up the mic, his voice sings an angelic voice from the classic 4 Kings of Cantopop.

Mio, a Japanese Filipino is in a typical stereotypical finance career. But at the BCS Karaoke, her energy and her multi-lingual from Korean to Japanese to Mandarin can simply replace any Kpop stars on screen !

Tippi K (singer)

An established Malaysian R&B singer. She was our star performer in the BCS CNY event earlier this year. Singing Taiwanese Popstar Teressa Teng (1953 - 1995) 鄧麗君’s song The Moon Represents My Heart 月亮代表我的心 in mandarin. As Esea artists, we see too many who are only either singing in English or the latest trend, in Korean but too afraid to sing in their native language. BCS want our Esea artist to celebrate their culture and sing in their native language. You can follow Tippi K on Spotify
