About the Artist

Ali Tekbaş is a musician, performer, and dedicated collector of Kurdish folk songs, renowned for his work in preserving and reimagining dengbêj—the ancient Kurdish tradition of musical storytelling. He has spent years traveling across Kurdish regions, gathering songs from elders and village singers to ensure their stories live on.

His 2012 album Seliqe (Kalan Müzik) reflects his deep commitment to Kurdish musical heritage. As a member of the ensemble Lawje, he explores the intersection of oral tradition and modern expression, keeping Kurdish music vibrant and relevant.

Ali’s work also spans the world of theatre. He has brought Kurdish stories to life in productions such as Hamlet and Mem u Zin, and participated in the Kurdish-language premiere of Tosca in Amsterdam.
