What is the 7 Plus Preparation Programme?

Our supports children from Year 1 through a structured, age-appropriate syllabus designed to build the core skills needed for 7 Plus entrance assessments. Lessons focus on developing strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and reasoning, alongside early exposure to exam-style tasks and interview discussion.

Teaching emphasises how to approach questions, helping children develop clear thinking, problem-solving strategies and confident communication. Pupils practise a wide range of age-appropriate questions, with new concepts introduced gradually and reinforced through guided practice.

The programme runs on a weekly basis, with topics taught in line with the 7 Plus syllabus. Weekly homework is set to consolidate learning and children are assessed regularly so progress can be monitored carefully. Every 4–8 weeks, parents receive feedback and guidance on strengths, areas for development and recommended next steps.

We prepare pupils for 7 Plus entrance exams across London and the surrounding counties, and encourage families to share their target schools so preparation can be closely aligned.

Students receive a 2.5 hours lesson every Saturday. Each lesson is split into two parts:

• Maths & Non-Verbal Reasoning
• English & Verbal Reasoning

Classes are small, with a maximum ratio of 7 students per tutor, ensuring focused and effective learning. Managing tutors are highly competent and have over 10 years of entrance exam experience. All classwork, homework, assessments, mock exams and online practice materials are included.

Our 7 Plus Preparation Programme is currently offered at our Central London location on Saturdays and is suitable for children in Year 1 and Year 2. Pupils are placed into small groups according to both year group and ability, ensuring teaching is well matched and age appropriate.

The Year 1 programme focuses on building strong foundations across all four assessed areas: maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Children are gently introduced to exam-style questions, basic technique, timing awareness and early mock-style practice in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

In Year 2, preparation becomes more focused on the demands of the upcoming 7 Plus entrance exams. Pupils work on refining technique, improving accuracy and learning how to approach questions efficiently. Practice papers, group interview activities and exam-style questions in numeracy, literacy and reasoning are introduced during these important months leading up to the assessments.

Classes run throughout the year, and children are welcome to join at any point, as the syllabus is carefully structured to cover all required areas regardless of start term. That said, we recommend enrolling as early as possible to allow time for skills to develop steadily and confidently.

Many schools now hold 7 Plus entrance exams earlier in the academic year, often in November or December rather than January. An early start helps ensure children have sufficient practice before these assessments. However, we also offer for families seeking more focused preparation closer to the exam date.

Our 7 Plus preparation classes are delivered face to face at our Central London location in Victoria. Sessions are carefully organised and overseen by our experienced course managers, with lessons taught by specialist tutors who follow our structured programme closely to ensure consistency and high teaching standards.

Our weekly Saturday classes in Victoria have been running successfully for over 10 years and are popular with families seeking structured, in-person preparation.

Teaching takes place in a calm classroom environment, with small class sizes and a maximum 7:1 pupil-to-tutor ratio to ensure focused attention and effective learning.
