Marking 400 Years of John Dowland’s Legacy
February 20, 2026 marks exactly 400 years since the passing of John Dowland, one of history’s most celebrated English reanaissance songwriters of the Elizabethan era. To honor this anniversary, we invite you to Dowland 400, a special two-concert series celebrating his life and music through a program conceived as a musical biography.
This project brings together lutenist Roque Deschamps, singer and multi-instrumentalist Caroline Jou Armitage, and the generous support of Utah Classical Guitar. Through music, the program traces Dowland’s personal and professional journey, illuminating defining moments of his life and travels.
K. Dawn Grapes, PhD, author of Dowland (the biography book of John Dowland) will join us as guest speaker. One of the foremost authorities on John Dowland, her biography of the composer and her scholarship on Renaissance music have significantly shaped modern understanding of his life and cultural context.
