Nature based solutions are ways of easily implementing simple actions on your farm which will mitigate soil erosion, nutrient run off to watercourses as well as "slow the flow" of streams, dykes or other waterbodies which periodically cause flooding downstream.
Funded through the Royal Countryside Fund, and in partnership with Water Resources East, this workshop will introduce farmers to Nature-Based Solutions and how they can be utilised to protect, manage, and restore ecosystems, including water and soil.
In 2020 Norfolk FWAG and the farm's owner Edward Crisp developed a comprehensive Countryside Stewardship Mid-tier scheme across Kirby Cane Hall Farm's holding. To complement the efforts to reduce soil erosion and run-off through cultural techiques of buffer strips and cover crops we engaged with Norfolk Rivers Trust who devised a plan to "Slow the flow" using interventions such as sediment traps, inline storage and leaky dams.
The workshop will begin with an indoor presentation at Loddon and Chedgrave Jubilee Hall from Norfolk FWAG, UEA and Norfolk Rivers Trust followed by lunch and a site visit.
Due to the funding of this workshop, we request that external organisations register a maximum of one representative.
