Are you interested in learning more about the Mine Run Campaign and the Battle that was fought at Payne's Farm? Would you like to be a volunteer and share this knowledge with visitors? Are you interested in doing research or helping to maintain the property? Are you good with technology and like to do computer work? Come and out visit with us on Saturday, May 3, and sign up to become an FOWB volunteer. We have various programs and events throughout the year, and we would love to have you on board to help!
What do our amazing volunteers do? You have seen them setting up Information tents and answering questions about various battles in the area, and you probably have seen them out on the trails, making sure the trails are clear and safe. But what else do they do? Is there something you would enjoy doing with them?
There is actually quite a bit of work that goes on behind the scenes. Some volunteers research genealogy lines, others research troop movements and locations, others research history in the area...Yes, you will often find us wandering around in cemeteries! We love cemeteries!
Some send out press releases for various events and keep up with Facebook and social media, and, of course, the website needs to stay up to date on everything. We are truly grateful for our wonderful webmaster, Deborah Newman!
We are learning about Invasive Species and Bird Habitats, and pollinator gardens, as Payne's Farm is an excellent site for those activities. We are working with the American Battlefield (ABT) Land Stewardship Manager, Tom Saielli, on controlling invasive species, and we have various groups asking to come out and help us for service projects.
FOWB board members will be on hand at Payne's Farm from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, to visit with you and tell you about our wonderful organization. Come out and say Hi and check out this beautiful property owned and preserved by the ABT. FOWB works closely with ABT, and we are honored to help protect this hallowed ground.
