Stanfield Close, Lockleaze, United Kingdom
Led by Steve England, this fascinating History of Purdown walk will take us to the monuments along the Purdown ridge where we will find out about the WW2 gun emplacements and the history of the Heath House Estate. We will find the hidden features and learn about the area through the ages until the present day.
This is a shorter walk and more stops will be included. We will remain on the ridge and within/around the Gun Emplacements for this event. Please bring drinks, snacks and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
Meeting Point - We will meet just inside the entrance to Stoke Park on Romney Avenue, OPPOSITE STANFIELD CLOSE. Please note some walking is still necessary which is ongrass and uphill from this meeting point. If you would like to join but want to stick to the hard surface path, you can access this from the main entrance to the park on Romney Avenue and meet us at the Purdown Gun Emplacements. Please email c3RldmVlbmdsYW5kYnJpc3RvbCB8IGdtYWlsICEgY29t if this is your preferred option and we will arrange meeting times and contact details to ensure you can join the history of Purdown!
Please bring drinks, snacks and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
You are welcome to bring your pooch along to this event - please do keep them on a lead :)
The Stoke Park Project - what is it and why is my place funded?
This is your opportunity to come and be part of a community conversation about Stoke Park. Bristol City Council wants to hear from you about which of the Park’s heritage and access features needs improving first.
By taking part in a fully funded walk with Steve England, you will learn all about the heritage, history and nature of the park, and afterwards you will be asked to send some feedback in a 3 minute survey, based on what you’ve seen and learned.
After the walk you will also have the chance to chat to Maria from Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust about your feelings and opinions. Which heritage aspects do you want to see restored first and foremost? Where could Stoke Park be easier to access for all?
The feedback received will inform how Bristol City Council manage the estate – so this really is your chance to influence the future of Stoke Park.
We request for any one individual to only book ONE funded space if possible throughout the programme please.
If you can no longer attend, please let us know asap so we can offer this funded space to someone else!
Also check out other Meetups in Stoke Gifford.
Tickets for "Less Walk More Talk" The History of Purdown (Dog Friendly) can be booked here.
