*Save the date!
The upcoming Wild Pedagogies International Colloquium, is scheduled to take place from 25th to 31st August 2025, in Tzoumerka Mountains, Greece.
*The evolution of Wild pedagogies
In 2025, 10 years of Wild Pedagogies initiatives and inspiration are celebrated
In 2014, a group of committed educators gathered in a floating colloquium down Dawson River in Yukon, Canada, under the theme “Wild Pedagogies” to explore how education could become more “wild” i.e., “self-willed”, “undomesticated”, and challenging control. All aiming toward creating a future, more sustainable culture, rather than re-creating the existing, dominant western culture that threatens life on earth.
In the present, we carry forward the original aim “to challenge dominant cultural ideas about control — of each other, of nature, of education, and of learning” - and invite you to gather again, under the inspiring theme of “Wild Imaginaries”, to further explore how to expand our imagination and channel its transformative power to tackle the above-mentioned challenges. Also, how to productively network and build alliances, and actively imagine Wild Pedagogies going forward into the next decade.
*What you should expect
A colloquium is, in itself, a challenge to the customary norms of conferences. Rather than having structured and formalized presentations, a colloquium is more conversational. It is a place where people come to learn by listening carefully, responding with an open mind and understanding in good faith. And our conversations will be responsive to contributions of the place and by our more-than-human partners. The venue will allow us to sit in circle, in open-air, round a campfire, such as has always been the ways of true communities.
*What is expected of you
Good conversations do require preparation. We expect you to have read the book: Wild Pedagogies. Touchstones for re-negotiation education and the environment in the anthropocene (Palgrave Pivot, London, 2018) and/or some of the other publications about Wild Pedagogies. And we expect you to be prepared to discuss some of the questions listed below. The meeting could be considered an adventure as we push the boundaries of conventional thinking about conferences, collegial work, scholarship, wilderness, voice, pedagogy, education — and ultimately control.
*Think about the following issues
** What could self-willed pedagogy or self-willed education look like?
** How can we reimagine education in terms of ideas, theory and practice?
** How can imagination – of both humans and our more-than-human partners – be harnessed to produce a new reality?
** What barriers exist to imagining and creating new worlds through education in partnership with more-than-human co-teachers? How can these barriers be overcome?
** How do we imagine Wild Pedagogies proceeding in the coming decade? What should or can be its main pursuit?
*Envisioned Group Composition and Size
We invite academics and practitioners alike to join forces, share knowledge, experiences, and ideas on the above critical questions. In alignment with the ethos of Wild Pedagogies, our sessions will prioritize community cultivation through circle seating, immersing into direct experiences with the more-than-human, and sharing reflections.
Seeing that we need to sustain the circle, space will be limited to ensure quality interactions and engagement. We would be happy if we could bring together a diverse group of participants, with varied perspectives from different countries, statuses, and areas of expertise.
*Expected outcomes
At the end of our meeting, we would like to host a dissemination event, for local students of pedagogical and other schools. So, participants are also invited to contribute to this, in a wild, spontaneous, responsive manner (plan but not everything).
Apart from that, we welcome ideas on further disseminations and publications, which we hope will emerge from the team dynamic.
*Requirements for Participation

Venue & Accommodation
The Mountain Refuge of Melissourgoi will serve as our meeting ground, providing an idyllic backdrop for profound discussions and reflections. You can find more details about the venue in the Mountain Refuge of Melissourgoi facebook page. The refuge offers the possibility either to sleep in bunker bed (6-bed dorm) or in a tent (yours). The refuge can cover all meals. The cost of accommodation & meals is approximately 60-70 euro per day.
