Join The Carbon Community for a day of trees & citizen science on Friday, 28th November as part of National Tree Week.
You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in research on trees at Glandwr Forest and to visit two of our veteran trees.
RESEARCH AT GLANDWR FOREST
Launched in 2021, the Glandwr Forest Carbon Study looks at the impact of two nature-based treatments, enhanced rock weathering (with crushed basalt) and soil microbiome inoculation, on newly planted forests. Designed together with leading scientists, the study looks at tree resilience, tree growth and whether these treatments can accelerate carbon sequestration above and below the ground.
This November, we will be measuring trees in our dose-response study, which looks at the impact of varying levels of basalt addition on tree growth.
COMMUNITY SCIENCE
Citizen science, sometimes called community science, is where people can help scientists in their work by taking measurements.
Activities will include measuring
• 🌳 Diameter at base
• 🌲 Diameter at 1.3 metres
• 📏 Height
• 📱 Recording the information
Please note that all activities are physical and on un-even terrain. Activities are suitable for 16+; under-18s must bring a responsible adult.
THE DAY
The barn will be open for coffee & tea from 9am and the event runs from 9:30am – 3:30pm.
