About the event

The Merseybeats Return to The Cavern Club – Relive the 1960s Mersey Beat Era!
Experience a Legendary Night at Liverpool’s Iconic Cavern Club
The Merseybeats are back at the world-famous Cavern Club Liverpool to re-create the unforgettable shows they performed there during the 1960s! This special annual event is a true celebration of one of the most authentic and beloved bands from the original Mersey Beat scene. Over 50 years on, The Merseybeats continue to thrill audiences worldwide with their timeless music.

About The Merseybeats – Icons of the Mersey Beat Era
Emerging from Liverpool’s vibrant Mersey Beat music scene in the early 1960s, The Merseybeats performed alongside legendary acts such as The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and many more at the Cavern Club. Their rich history and hit-packed setlists make them one of the most enduring and authentic bands of the era.

From Mavericks to Merseybeats – A Brief History
1960: Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley formed their first band, originally called the Mavericks.

1961: Renamed to The Pacifics in September.

1962: Bob Wooler, MC at the Cavern Club, suggested the name The Mersey Beats, which later became The Merseybeats.

By this time, the band featured Tony Crane, Billy Kinsley, guitarist Aaron Williams, and drummer John Banks.

Hit Records and Global Success
The Merseybeats signed with Fontana Records and delivered a string of iconic hits:

1963 – It’s Love That Really Counts (first hit single)

1964 – I Think of You (a million-seller and their first Gold Disc)

Other hits: Don’t Turn Around, Wishin’ and Hopin’, Last Night, I Love You, Yes I Do, I Stand Accused, Mr. Moonlight, Really Mystified, and The Fortune Teller.

They shared the Cavern Club stage with The Beatles more than any other band of the era and even headlined their own television show in Italy. International tours took them across Germany and the USA.

The Merseys – A New Chapter
In 1966, Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley formed The Merseys, scoring a massive hit with Sorrow—a track later famously covered by David Bowie.
