As part of the Liverpool European Christmas Trail, the tradition of Lucia: Bearer of Light stands alongside Midsummer as one of Sweden’s most significant cultural celebrations, rooted in the contrasts of old peasant life: darkness and light, cold and warmth.
Lucia commemorates Lucia of Syracuse, an early 4th century virgin martyr, who brought food and aid to people wearing a candle lit wreath on her head to leave her hands free to carry as much food as she could. Lucia is an ancient figure with an abiding role as a bearer of light in the dark Swedish winters.
Entry is £7.50 including coffee and cake - tickets available via Eventbrite or on the door. Please note that spaces are limited, so advance purchase via Eventbrite is recommended.
