About the event

Liver Bards poetry event 'of Innocence and of Experience'
The twelfth and final Liver Bards poetry event of 2025 is inspired by William Blake and titled ‘of Innocence and of Experience’.
It is coming to the basement of Tempest on Tithebarn (L2 2DT) in Liverpool on Tuesday 2nd December 2025. We will return to Ma Boyle’s in 2026. Please contact me (Ali) if you know you would like a poetry slot (5 minutes maximum). Thank you to the 283 bards who have performed thus far this year at Liver Bards.

Whether you’re a Liver Bards regular or new to sharing your poetry publicly, you are most welcome. And also if you simply wish to listen.

Performing bards and audience will come together downstairs in Tempest on Tithebarn.
Come speak your truth and listen to others speak theirs.
Choose to adopt, adapt or ignore the title.
Please be respectful of others and thoughtful about the words you share.
There may be the opportunity for poets to sign up on the night at the venue from 7.30pm if all the spots are not filled.

Jake Archer is due to start the music sometime after 7.
The poeteering begins at 8.
This will be my 108th Liver Bards as host.

The title ‘of Innocence and of Experience’ refers to the collection of illustrated poems by William Blake published as ‘Songs of Innocence and of Experience’. Songs of Innocence includes the poem ‘The Lamb’. And many more. Songs of Experience includes the poem ‘The Tiger’. And many more. The central image is a painting I made in 2014 combining both lamb and tiger, tessellated. Why not join The Blake Society if you can spare £25 every year? I just have. It looks great.

Liver Bards takes a break in January and returns in February back at Ma Boyle’s. In the meantime: on Wed 3rd Dec (my birthday), I’m hosting the Barry Woods event ‘Where Did All The Punks Go?’ at the Wall of Fame venue in Matthew Street, Liverpool; on Tuesday 9th December I’m hosting ‘Itch’ at Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, Knowsley; and on Tuesday 20th January, I’m excited to give you an exclusive… I’ll be hosting a new family-friendly poetry event titled ‘Bootle Bards’ at the brilliant Kingsley & Co children’s bookshop in Sefton with YKids. More details soon.

Keep poeteering!
