About the event

The Isles of Robertson
One of my favorite thrills of disc golf is throwing a disc over a body of water. For anyone who hasn’t played many water carries, you may not truly understand the pressure and internal conflict of approaching a water carry hole. Do I throw my favorite/best disc and give myself the best chance of carrying the water but risk losing my favorite disc potentially forever? Or do I throw something I don’t care about that much so if I do lose it, oh well? While Livermore has gotten creative with islands and OB, we cannot truly recreate that pressure at this course. Until now…

I present to you the treacherous Isles of Robertson. This layout, designed by Zach Babka, will seek to recreate the pressures of water carries. Anywhere on this layout that you see marked as OBSW (Out of bounds, simulated water) plays slightly different than your traditional OB. If your disc lands in OBSW, on top of the standard OB rules, that disc is “lost in the water” and may not be thrown for the rest of the round (if it is mistakenly thrown on a later hole, a 2 stroke penalty is incurred). Another small difference with water carries, is discs very rarely skip off water and stay in bounds. Thus, if a players disc makes contact with anything on the ground OB, it is OB and that disc is “lost in the water.” For example, if a path is OBSW and a throw skips off that path back in bounds. That disc is OB as if it never came back in bounds in the first place. If there is a drop zone, the player would take their OB penalty and proceed to the drop zone, if no drop zone is specified, the player can either replay from the previous lie with a one stroke penalty or play from where the disc was last in bounds before contacting OBSW with the one stroke penalty. Regardless, that disc is forfeited for the round.
