On Saturday, September 27th at 9am join the GLDP and the downtown Littleton business owners and patrons as we show our support for our local Littleton Academy Bluejay 7th graders and Bikes for Bluejays cyclist by ringing COW BELLS as they start their ride by coming through beautiful, downtown Littleton. Yes, I said "ringing cow bells". Why cow bells? Well, come to find out, the tradition of using cowbells to cheer athletes dates back to the 1900's and has roots in Switzerland and other mountainous regions, where cows' bells were used to support winter ski racers. This practice eventually spread to other sporting events including bike racing, and it continues to be popular at all levels of bike riding and races, including the Tour de France. Cow bells are loud, with a distinctive sound that can be heard from a distance, making them ideal noise makers that can be heard easily on the racecourse. Ringing cow bells lets spectators to become a part of the event by creating an enthusiastic atmosphere that some athletes have said, help them be motivated and ride FASTER! So, let's have an enthusiastic crowd of as many cow bell ringers as possible waiting for them as they begin their ride through downtown Littleton. We want this to be a race that people return to year after year and that grows larger each year because this event raises funds for bikes & helmets for the incoming 7th graders at Littleton Academy each year. In addition to funding bikes and helmets, the students are taught bike safety, bike care & maintenance and riding skills over a multi-week period. Let's all Jump on board and support this unique youth program in any way we can! And keep in mind, 100% of the proceeds from rider registrations and business sponsors goes to purchasing the bikes, helmets, and helping to cover event expenses - and ALL funds that exceed those costs are turned into scholarships for Littleton Academy students!
Come out to downtown Littleton by 9am on Saturday, September 27, 2025, to get your cow bell and support our Bluejays and the Bike for Bluejay cyclist. For more information on getting your cow bell(s) reach out to the GLDP at
