From Susan McRae:
For the August retreat, Karen and I have been tossing around several different class ideas and have decided on Indigo dyeing and tapestry weaving. For the weaving, I will bring 10” tapestry looms (cost $25) and some bits of yarn to teach anyone a bit of tapestry weaving. The only cost for this class is for the supplies. I see this as an ongoing acitivity with no specified class times.
For the indigo, I will set up an indigo vat and provide you with fabric that is ready to dye and the tools to make shibori - fold/clamp/stitch the cloth before dipping the fabric into the indigo. But I also want to play with applying indigo to the fabric. We will thicken the indigo and paint or stencil the thickened indigo onto the fabric to make a design. I see all of these indigo optioms as a way to make a variety of fabrics for sitching, quilting or sewing. However, if you prefer, I will bring a selection of pre-treated scarves and you can use the scarves as your canvas!!! The cost of this class will be determined by what you choose to do.
Please let me know if you would like to sign up for any of this. I am looking forward to it!!!
