Planning Your Spring Garden

Description: Need help figuring out where to start with your spring garden? We will discuss raised beds vs. row planting, proper plant spacing, and the most important bed location. Learn when to plant, what and how to start transplants, and succession and companion planting.

What to expect: We will gather in the EMBARC garden where Ranger Sherrie will lead the program. There will be gloves to borrow as well as any necessary tools. Participants will be able to actively participate in starting seeds in the greenhouse, preparing garden beds, planting in the raised beds, and other gardening skills.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Sherrie Barnes

Where to meet: EMBARC Garden, look for the sign in sheet on the back picnic tables under the red umbrellas.

What to bring: Wear comfortable footwear, dress for the weather, any gardening tools/gloves you have, and bring a refillable water bottle.

Restrooms: A private bathroom is available in the brown office building

Recommended ages: This program content is designed for adults and older children, but all ages are welcome.

Weather contingency: This program will be canceled if there is rain or other inclement weather.

Exposure: This program is mostly in full sun with the other part being in a greenhouse.

I give permission that all photographs, films, video recordings, and sound recordings of me and/or my child(ren) made by the DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs during this Naturalist program may be used non- commercially by the DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs to promotion and educational purposes. I understand and acknowledge that neither my child(ren) nor I will receive any compensation whatsoever for appearing in any photograph, film, video recording, or sound recording made by the DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs.
