Join us for an evening of powerful storytelling, reflection, and solidarity at our screening of Where Olive Trees Weep - a searing and deeply moving documentary offering a window into the lives of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.
The film explores themes of loss, generational trauma, and the unwavering quest for justice, while also highlighting moments of resilience and hope that rise through the cracks of deep suffering.
We follow the stories of journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, young activist Ahed Tamimi, and renowned Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness the compassionate trauma healing work of Dr. Gabor Maté with Palestinian women who have endured imprisonment and torture.
Set against the scarred yet beautiful backdrop of ancestral Palestinian lands, the film captures the brutal reality of occupation - land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, and denial of basic human rights - while also illuminating the strength and spirit that continues to endure.
The screening will open with a short educational video on the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, followed by a short film about AMURTEL’s humanitarian work with Gaza refugees - where 100% of the fundraiser’s proceeds will be directed.
A Q&A panel will follow the screening, featuring speakers from Northern Rivers Friends of Palestine, Jews for Palestine Northern Rivers and AMURT. They will offer brief reflections on the current crisis, share personal perspectives, and respond to audience questions.
Proceeds: All funds raised will go to AMURTEL’s relief work for Gaza refugees
