Hi all! To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home, KC'S Book Nook in association with Usborne books, is running a sponsored read over the summer holidays. 📚 The Page Turner Summer Reading Challenge 📚 will take place between the 28th July – 26th August 2025.
Did you know that children can lose up to 20–30% of their reading progress over the summer holidays if they don’t keep reading? 😨 This is often called the “Summer Slide” — and it’s more common than we think.
📉 Here’s what the research says:
Children who don’t read over the summer lose an average of 2–3 months of reading skills
By the end of primary school, children who’ve experienced summer learning loss can be nearly 2 years behind their peers.
Consistent access to books and encouragement to read can completely prevent this slide

We have the tools to help families keep reading fun, exciting, and EASY this summer — from activity books and sticker stories to chapter books and read-alouds. Of course, children can read any books they own or can borrow from their local library. The important thing is that they are reading all summer long and being sponsored to do so! Any money raised will go towards the books that your children would like to pick from Usborne! There is over 3000+ books, puzzles, activity books etc to choose from!
