Craniosacral is a light touch method that releases tensions existing deep within the body. This method was created by osteopathic physician Dr. John Upledger, who very much believed the body had its own natural capacity to heal when trauma and disease processes become overwhelming for the system.
Many of the systems of your body are directly impacted by the craniosacral system- a system that includes the soft tissues and fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. When these tissues absorb tension and stress, they become tight and can have a negative effect on the brain and spinal cord, which can then compromise the function of the central nervous system. Using the weight of a nickel, Craniosacral Therapy involves light touch techniques along your head and body to monitor the rhythm of the fluid flowing through your central nervous system.
The therapist is "listening with their hands" to evaluate for areas of weak fluid flow or tissue motion and will then use these light touch techniques to release restrictions to enhance performance of your central nervous system. This session takes about 45-60 minutes and is done fully clothed while relaxing on a padded massage table.
