A Tribute in Thread: Limerick’s Forgotten Lacemakers

This exhibition revives the almost-forgotten legacy of Limerick’s lacemakers—women whose nimble fingers wove beauty into daily life and history. Through rare lace pieces, archival photographs, and personal stories, discover how these craftswomen transformed fine thread into works of quiet power and grace.

A Tribute in Thread invites you to honour their overlooked contributions, and to see the intricate threads that connect creativity, community, and cultural memory.

This exhibition is one of the three major exhibitions organised as part of the Laces of Ireland project. The project is funded by Creative Ireland’s Creative Communities on a Shared Island Scheme, and Limerick City and County Council through Creative Ireland Limerick.
