Lions War is held on private property just north of Clinton, B.C. in an open field through which runs a creek. There is no plumbing or electricity. A spring provides water for many, others
prefer to bring their own or fill water containers with chlorinated water from the tap in Clinton itself.
Pit outhouses, sometimes aromatic, are the sanitary facilities. Do not put chemical toilets in the outhouses: it destroys the digestive enzymes we use to process the waste. The nights can get very cold, the days are hot and afternoon/evening winds are gusty. Pavillions have been known to blow away, stake down your tie downs and tie down your stake downs.
Tenting and merchant space at this site is on a first come-first serve basis. Noisier camping is near the Tavern but because this is a valley, there are no really quiet spots. The only way to claim space is for your tent or a labeled tarp to occupy that space. (And securely because of the wind) There is no tenting on the Combat and Castle Field, or in Nob Hollow as it is held for Court and games activities.
There is a fairly level area reserved for RV’s near gate. Any RV’s in the camping area must be well disguised.
Smoking is allowed only at designated sites. We have members of our populace who are deathly allergic to cannabis, please, only at the designated sites.
Fires - Category 1 campfires are currently allowed, in braziers off the ground only. No Tiki torches. Propane firepits are allowed. Must have buckets of water and sand on hand to put out fires.
The creek is our lifeline. There needs to be a clear ten feet wide path along the creek between any tent or pavilion guy lines and the creek so that everybody has access to the water. Everybody is welcome to draw water from the fastest-running parts of the creek, but wash stuff away from the creek, and dump the water on the roads to keep down the dust. Please don’t dump anything into the creek. Again this is the Town of Clinton’s water supply, as well as the water supply for almost everyone here.
Water from the creek is regularly tested by the Provincial Health Inspector as safe to drink. However, it is recommended boiling or lightly chlorinating is a wise safety precaution if you have any concerns.
Parents – the creek can be deep and fast for children, please supervise whenever they are near the creek.
Pets of all species are welcome. An Tir leash laws apply. Remember shade and water, and that crowds and noise can be very stressful for some animals and they will need extra care and attention. Pets should be in sight and under the control of their owner at all times.
Dumpster to be delivered near Gate Tuesday. Take your garbage to the dumpster and place as far forward as possible. Due to expected attendance, we ask only bagged garbage from your stay; we do not believe we will have space for broken chairs, the dead BBQ and the tents shredded by wind, etc. Do not leave garbage by the road, by the gate house, or on the field. Please don’t toss metal recycling in the dumpster.
Empty returnable deposit containers will be collected on Sunday by a citizen from Clinton for donation to a town project.
As per the landowner, generators are to follow BC Park rules, and should not be run before 7am or after 8pm.
Vehicle Stuff:
Gate – please close it behind you.
Driving – Please, no faster than a walk. The dust that kicks up is hard on everyone. If you need to unload, please do so, then park in the designated parking lots.
Parking – please park your vehicles as closely as possible, with just enough room to get out. It’s going to be crowded.
Except for setup and takedown, and those with medically restricted mobility, cars will not be allowed on site (except the parking lot) during the event from Friday morning until Monday morning; with no vehicles other than emergency responders Saturday and Sunday morning. The passenger pickup/drop-off and unload area will be at the gatehouse, so a wheelbarrow; wagon or willing bodies are recommended if you are doing an ice run for your entire shire.
