This protest will focus on the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1791. It was created to protect individual liberties and limit the power of the federal government. Here’s a quick summary of each amendment:
1. Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition – Protects your right to express ideas, gather peacefully, and criticize the government.
2. Right to Bear Arms – Grants the right to own and carry weapons.
3. Quartering of Soldiers – Prevents the government from forcing you to house soldiers in your home without consent.
4. Search and Seizure – Protects against unreasonable searches and requires warrants based on probable cause.
5. Rights of the Accused – Guarantees due process, protects against double jeopardy and self-incrimination, and ensures compensation for seized property.
6. Right to a Fair Trial – Ensures a speedy, public trial by jury, legal counsel, and the ability to confront witnesses.
7. Trial by Jury in Civil Cases – Preserves the right to a jury trial in civil disputes involving significant amounts of money.
8. Bail and Punishment – Prohibits excessive bail and fines, and bans cruel and unusual punishment.
9. Rights Retained by the People – Asserts that people have rights beyond those listed in the Constitution.
10. Powers Reserved to the States – Declares that powers not given to the federal government belong to the states or the people.
