Victorian families were expected to follow strict social norms, which relegated women to the private sphere and hid away those who did not conform. Among the members of the Robbins family, which built the Ellen Stone Building, were those whose lives did not strictly meet these norms, including Julia, Hannah Maria, and Lot Robbins.

What made their lives different from the lives of their peers? And how was their unorthodoxy representative of greater social attitudes at the time? Join the Lexington Lyceum for this free lecture to explore the answers to these questions.
