Meet at Sunridge Park entrance off Rocky Mountain Blvd W!

About the Walk
We will complete a loop of the large pond at Sunridge Park, stopping to discuss how using natural vegetation to manage stormwater can create positive benefits for wildlife, water quality, and local residents. We will introduce the concept of green infrastructure, identify the pros and cons of creating greenspaces similar to Sunridge Park and discuss the local flora and fauna that make this park their home.

Walk leaders: Kathleen, David, and Jackie!

Kathleen Sheppard joined Environment Lethbridge as Executive Director in November of 2015. Originally from southern Alberta, Kathleen has more than 25 years experience working for non-profit organizations in BC and Alberta. Prior to coming to Environment Lethbridge, she was the Executive Director for Social Planning Cowichan, located in Duncan, BC. Her previous experience includes work in land conservation, wildlife rescue, wilderness protection and environmental sustainability.

Born and raised in northern Ontario, David Scott began venturing from home to find birds at age 16 and has been an avid birder and naturalist ever since. After moving to southern Alberta, he came to love the birds of the prairies, badlands, foothills, and mountains as he did those of the boreal forest on the Canadian shield. A librarian by trade, David works at the University of Lethbridge and serves as interim chair of the Alberta Bird Record Committee and the Christmas Bird Count editor for the province. He has also spent several years on the board of Nature Lethbridge and has authored and coauthored articles published in Nature Alberta Magazine, North American Birds, and Western Birds. Since 2020, David has tallied over 150 species of birds and many interesting insects in Sunridge Park.

Jackie Cardinal is the Natural Resources Coordinator with City of Lethbridge Parks and Cemeteries.
