Evening Paddle on the Housatonic River

The evening is a great time to look for wildlife. Explore the rich wetlands of the Housatonic Valley Wildlife Management Area at a leisurely pace in the hours before dusk. After paddling a short distance, the group will find a cove to pause and enjoy listening and watching for wildlife. Kingfishers, herons, muskrats, beavers, and other wildlife are all possible sightings.

This will be a leisurely canoe on a section of the Housatonic River classified as flatwater, with frequent stops along the way. This program requires about an hour of continuous use of the abdominal muscles and shoulders as well as the ability to bend down and lift your knees up toward your waist to get in and out of the canoe. The footing at the boat ramp might be uneven or slippery.
