Two days in the Happy Valley region of the Yadkin River at a Music Festival at the very end of August- sign us up! The Yadkin Riverkeeper family will be camping, paddling and enjoying the sounds of talented musicians on the banks of the upper Yadkin River. With assistance from the Upper Yadkin Outfitters and the Happy Valley Jamboree, we will have fun with a river cleanup starting just after lunch in the afternoon of August 29th. This cleanup will end on the grounds of the Happy Valley Jamboree. Stay the night and camp with us under the stars and enjoy (or participate in) the music from the stage and from most of the campfires around the property.
The next morning will start with a paddle from the beach we stopped on the day before and paddle down to Elk Creek. The river in this section is frequently clear and gorgeous. We’ll be off the water around lunchtime so you can explore the region of Happy Valley including the graves of Laura Foster and Tom Dula or stop by the Patterson School Sculpture Park. It’s not a visit to the area unless you make a run to Happy Valley Filling Station and top off a day with a doughnut from your stash from Dixie Doughnuts.
This region between Wilkesboro and Lenoir is becoming more widely known in the paddling community, and when you see it, you’ll wonder why you waited so long.
Sign up for one or both days. Camping at the Jamboree is not covered and meals will not be provided. But Ward has a habit of buying way too many doughnuts, you may get to sample one from Dixie Doughnuts whether you plan on it or not. 😊
Friday river cleanup is no charge, but will be limited to 12 paddlers
Saturday paddle will be $30 if you bring your own canoe or kayak, $45 if you would like to rent one of ours.
