Coffee Foundations: GRIND ☕️🔧
Hands-On Coffee Class (1.5 hours)
Grind size is the fastest way to change your coffee without changing the coffee. In this hands-on class at Maps Coffee, we’ll show you exactly how grind controls extraction, flow rate, and flavor—then we’ll taste the difference together across four brew styles: Pour Over, Batch Brew, French Press, and Espresso.
You’ll learn the “why” (particle size, surface area, contact time, and resistance) and the practical “how”: what to adjust when your coffee tastes sour, weak, bitter, or dry. We’ll brew the same coffee at different grind settings so you can clearly connect what’s happening in the grinder to what you taste in the cup.
✅ Beginner-friendly, with plenty of depth for coffee geeks.
What we’ll cover:
• How grind affects sweetness, bitterness, clarity, and body
• Why each brew method needs a different grind
• How to taste under- vs over-extraction (and fix it fast)
• A repeatable “dial-in” method you can use at home
What you’ll do:
• Compare and handle grounds across a range of grind sizes
• Taste side-by-side brews for each method
• Leave with a quick Grind + Troubleshooting guide
Perfect for:
Anyone who wants more consistent coffee at home—or wants to nerd out and dial in like a pro.
