Art in the Gardens - Handmade Mini Books

Join us for a hands-on bookbinding workshop where you’ll learn to create three distinct and beautiful types of handmade books: chain stitch, Coptic, and accordion binding. This class is perfect for beginners and creatives looking to explore the art of bookmaking.

We’ll start with the chain stitch binding, a decorative and functional method that creates a sturdy book with exposed stitching. Then, move on to the Coptic binding, known for its elegant, open-spine design that lays flat when open — ideal for journals or sketchbooks. Finally, explore the playful and versatile accordion fold, a structure that’s great for artist books, and creative storytelling.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn the tools, techniques, and materials needed to craft each book type, and leave with three unique handmade books and the skills to continue binding on your own. This workshop is intended for adults or homeschooled high schoolers. All materials provided for the cost of $15.

This is an adult-level class.

Tickets for Handmade Mini Books are $15 which covers the cost of all materials. Art in the Gardens offers a variety of different classes throughout the season. Register in advance to ensure your spot or pay at the kiosk when you arrive.

Admission to Bedrock Gardens is free for members and $15 for non-members. Children 12 and under are free with their parent or guardian.
