Targeting speech language and communication needs in children with Down syndrome

This Autumn we are running a series of three in-depth sessions, for speech and language professionals, looking at the specific difficulties associated with speech, language and communication experienced by children and young adults with Down syndrome. These sessions are designed for speech and language therapists and will cover a review of the evidence, implications for assessment and intervention as well as evidence-informed intervention strategies. It is recommended that therapists have watched the introduction session 'An overview of the speech, language and communication profile associated with Down Syndrome' before attending these sessions and access to a recording of this can be added to your purchase of the three live sessions.


A single ticket will cover three in-depth sessions:

1. Promoting and developing speech skills (25th September 1.00-2.30pm)
2. Developing vocabulary and syntax (23rd October 1.00-2.30pm)
3. Supporting communication and social strengths (20th November 1.00-2.30pm)

These sessions will be hosted by Dr. Rebecca Baxter, DSUK's Director of Education and Speech and Language Therapy. Becky is a speech and language therapist who specialises in Down syndrome and has worked with hundreds of children from infants through to young adults with Down syndrome. Becky is also involved in a number of research projects across speech, language and education issues associated with Down syndrome. Becky completed her PhD in 2023 at University College London, which involved developing and evaluating a language intervention for children with Down syndrome.
