Consider yourself formally invited to The Book of Small Humor — a gathering to celebrate the life of Keith Arthur Middlemas. It will be held on September 13th at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence. The exact time is still to come, but plan on late afternoon/early evening.
He was without question, a prolific artist in the medium of stone, a story teller, a lawrence icon and a father I miss dearly. I don’t think you can walk five blocks in town without passing something he laid his loving hands on.
The Book of Small Humor was the name he gave to a collection of autobiographical stories he carried with him throughout his life. Some he wrote in full, many he simply lived. But all of them bore his signature: dry wit, deep thought, and an unshakable reverence for what was true and what was right.
If there’s something you’d like to share beyond the scope of an open mic... be it a musical performance, or any kind of contribution that feels meaningful to you or fitting for Keith, please don’t hesitate to reach out. so we can accommodate and make space for it. That said, your presence alone is more than enough.
The sting in this one for me… lies in the irony here… It will be the first time stories are told, and he’s not the one telling them.
