Buckle up, William Wellman’s NIGHT NURSE (1931) takes us on a wild ride. Daring for its time (and ours), it ignored the censors with adultery, violence, drug and alcohol abuse and even attempted filicide.
A clean shaven hunky chauffeur is the villain and a bootlegger is a hero. The real heroines are night nurses- often in bed together in silky lingerie or breaking the rules to save the day. Barbara Stanwyck, with a heart of gold who can deliver a mighty right hook, and Joan Blondell, who brings all the wit and sass.
A punch of fun and shock, with a splash of queer coding, NIGHT NURSE is unforgettable.
